Kenora’s Fire and Emergency Services department is developing a Wildland Fire Protection plan.

Fire Chief Dave Pratt says this is the first time they had such a document.

“Just with all the forest fires around us we thought it would be prudent to develop a plan for our community should the fires get a little closer,” explains Pratt.

“There’s a public education piece and a then there’s a response piece.”

Pratt says with the potential for the increase in forest fires, the new plan is timely.

“We’ve never had a Wildland Protection Plan before so it’s was an opportunity.  There was grant funding opportunity, and we didn’t have one (Wildland Protection Plan).  So it’s kind of an add on or an appendices for our emergency program.”

The Loomex Group is developing the plan along with an update of Kenora’s Emergency Management Plan.
