Melillo concerned about federal budget spending

Federal finance minister Chrystia Freeland has a brand new pair of shoes as she gets ready to deliver the federal budget this afternoon.

The actual budget might be anti-climactic since many of the new programs have already been announced over the last couple of weeks.

Eric Melillo is the Kenora MP and says the Trudeau government has to be better stewards of taxpayer dollars.

“There is lots of spending being announced and we’re calling for a cap on government spending, and to do a dollar to dollar approach,” explains Melillo.

“So if there are any new programs or initiatives the government wants to move forward on, they have to find equivalent savings elsewhere.  I think its a very simple policy.  Most Canadians do that in their everyday lives.  We need to bring back some fiscal prudence.”

Melillo is concern the government is spending too much of the taxpayers money.

“The government is very good at spending money and making announcements but after more than eight years of their government, what we’re seeing Canadians aren’t getting value for that money.  In fact their deficits are driving up inflation and their policies aren’t working. Indications are they’re making a lot of the issues even worse.”

Melillo says the Conservatives will also continue to fight against the Federal Carbon Tax.
