Kenora Fire and Emergency Services is looking for more volunteers.
Fire Chief Dave Pratt says they had several people train as paid-for-call firefighters last year, but they can use more.
“The current establishing and regulating by-law says we can have up to 55 paid-for-call firefighters with the three stations,” explains Pratt.
“Including the recruits we had from last year’s class, we probably have about 30, so we have lots of vacancies.”
Pratt adds they are planning to do the training for the new recruits a little differently this year.
“What we’re trying to do is condense the training a bit. The last two recruit classes we trained once a week for two or three hours. So this time, we’re trying to condense it. Starting around Labour Day or just after, throwing in a couple of Saturdays.”
The paid-for-call volunteers are the first in line for any new full-time vacancies at the Kenora Fire and Emergency Services Department.
There will be a paid-for-call firefighters information session on May 7th at the fire hall and the deadline to apply is May 27th.
