Kenora city council is looking a hosting a couple of town hall meetings each year.

The idea was brought forward by councillor Kelsie Van Belleghem in a notice of motion.

Councillor Barb Manson says she’s in favour of hold them.

“I think two times a year for sure and if something comes up, we could add a third one,” Manson told council at Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.

“I like the time of year.  I like the fact that you talk about different departments.  I think that’s a good way to get information out there.”

She adds that there have been some good suggestions from council on how to run the town hall’s.

“We absolutely need somebody to moderate the events from outside, but also someone that is tough enough to direct where the (town halls) should go.  Staff should be involved, and I like the idea of having what the subject should be.”

Council is still working out the details, but the first town hall would be at end of June and another one is being proposed for the end of October or November.
