The mayor of Kenora is hoping a decision about controlling the entrance to the LCBO can be revisited.

LCBO outlets in Kenora, Sioux Lookout and Thunder Bay were supposed to be part of a pilot project.

Andrew Poirier says the whole issue became a political hot potato.

“I understand there are some issues at the LCBO level and the Ministry of Finance, but we’re going to continue to pursue it and see if there something we can begin to talk about again,” says Poirier.

“We want to see if there is a possibility to look at that model again, under different circumstances.”

The pilot project was halted just days after it’s was announced over privacy concerns raised by the Canadian Civil Liberties Association.

Poirier says he was surprised the pilot program was shut down even before it started.

“There was a lot of work that went into this behind the scenes.  If there were some issues in implementing it. we should have had that discussion and I’m hoping we can have that discussions moving forward.”

Poirier adds the pilot project was one of the ways Kenora was going to reduce calls for service for the OPP.
