New funding for housing-related infrastructure

A budget advancer from the Ford government.

One-point-eight billion dollars goes toward two programs intended to help municipalities put in place the infrastructure required for new housing programs.

Premier Doug Ford says this includes a new program.

“We’re launching the new Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program with a billion dollars in funding that will support building core infrastructure projects such as roads and bridges and water infrastructure,” says Ford.

More details are expected to be revealed in next week’s budget.

The rest of the money will quadruple the Housing Enabling Water System Fund.

This fund helps municipalities repair, rehabilitate, and expand drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure.

“So, this is great news. You can never go wrong when you invest in infrastructure. With this new funding, even more municipalities will hit their housing targets.”

Ford adds new funding compliments to the $1.2 billion Building Faster Fund that is rewarding municipalities for meeting or existing their housing targets.

A portion of the money has been earmarked for small, rural and northern communities not assigned housing targets by the province.
