Council votes against re-use center

Kenora city council has voted against having a re-use center at the Waste Transfer Station.

The idea was floated by council Lisa Moncrief.

It would cost 75 thousand dollars to construct a building to house the items for re-use, and 61 thousand dollars a year to operate it with a half-time person.

It was defeated by a vote of 3-2.

Mayor Andrew Poirier says while he has nothing against the idea, he doesn’t think it’s wise to add another position in the city, when they are facing financial tough times.
